The Vauxhall Corsa is a popular and practical small car that’s a rival for the Ford Fiesta, Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Polo. It seats five (although three in the back can be a squeeze), offers some of the lowest emissions in the supermini class and comes with some very competitive pricing.
The Corsa has long been one of the best-selling cars in the UK, rarely falling out of the top ten, and it’s still a compelling prospect. It now has styling that more echoes its funky little sibling, the Adam, and the engine range is as large as ever, with many of both the petrol and diesels offering strong fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. The cabin is well kitted and roomy, and it’s decent to drive, too.
The comfort suspension is still a bit better; it’s appreciably supple over big bumps and well damped even over more severe intrusions such as manhole covers and bridge expansion joints, although it can be slightly fidgety over rippled town roads.
Basic Life models get a very basic FM/AM stereo with an auxiliary input, while Sting models go a bit further and add a CD player and USB socket. The limited display means there will be a lot of scrolling involved if you’ve got a hefty music collection.
There’s lots of space up front in the Corsa; it’s got more headroom than a VW Polo or a Ford Fiesta, so tall drivers won’t feel cramped, although some might wish there was a touch more leg room. It’s a reasonably wide cabin, too, so it doesn’t feel too cosy if you have a passenger.
As a conclusion, the Vauxhall Corsa is an excellent small car. It’s pleasant to live with, a cheap company car, and an affordable private buy.
