The new Vauxhall Astra

Because of the interior design and extra trims it feels like a grown-up and sensible car. It not only looks good, it’s easy to use as well example: you can control most of the functions from the steering wheel thanks to the steering wheel controls, the air conditioning is logically arranged, the 7 inch display, digital radio, Bluetooth, cruise control , they’re all standard just as the smartphone connection.

If you get inside the back, the doors open nice and wide, it’s easy to get in there is lots of leg room for the average person, you can just about squeeze in 3 adults in the back thanks to the extra leg room, there are easy to access ISOFIX fittings for child seats. The only thing missing is the central armrest.

The new Astra is 130 kilograms lighter than its predecessor and it can be fitted with the brand’s latest 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol, which provides a healthy 143bhp and weighs less than the old 1.4-litre petrol.

A smaller 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, similar to the one used in the Vauxhall Corsa, is available, along with the ‘Whisper Diesel’ engine from the  Vauxhall Insignia. Horsepower in the new Astra ranges from 99 to 197bhp, depending on the engine.
